Publix campaign begins June 19 for local kids

June 19 marks the 28th year that Publix stores will raise millions of dollars to support kids treated at their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Associates at Publix will empower their customers to become miracle makers by offering miracle coupons for purchase from June 19-30 at all registers.

Miracle coupons will raise critical funds during the annual register campaign and help your local children’s hospital procure life-saving equipment and provide research, education and outreach programs.

The 1, $3 or $5 purchase miracle coupons offer values up to $5.50, $10 and $20 from vendors like Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Cereal, Mars (Mars Petcare, Mars Chocolate and Wrigley), Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola and Dasani, Georgia Pacific (Angel Soft Bath Tissue and Sparkle Paper Towels), Oil-Dri (Cat’s Pride®), Red Bull and Frito Lay.

Funds raised during the campaign go to help kids like Ciarlo. Despite being born with a severe form of Spina Bifida, having surgery at just 21 hours and a shunt placed in his brain at two weeks, Ciarlo–who is paralyzed from the waist down–has a personality that brightens every room. In fact, he’s been nicknamed “The Mayor” because of his outgoing, cheerful demeanor. It’s an outlook that means everything for a family that’s dealt with so much.

In 2016, Ciarlo’s older brother, Dominic, lost his battle to brain cancer. Since Dominic’s death, the Pediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT) has provided emotional, social and spiritual support to help the family work through their grief. Ciarlo meets with a PACT child life therapist, and his parents see a PACT bereavement social worker. Funds raised through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals support PACT and other programs that help children and families cope with the hospital experience.

Ciarlo continues to bring his unique brand of joy to everyone he meets. He’s proud of his accomplishments, and loves telling people that his first word was “stethoscope.”

More than 1,220 Publix stores in Florida, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia are participating in the fundraiser benefitting 27 member hospitals.

In 2018, Publix raised a record $5,655,244 million for 27 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals—surpassing their fundraising total by 8% over 2017. Since 1992, Publix has raised more than $42 million for kids treated at CMN Hospitals.
